The Convention ★

The SHINE convention experience is designed to nurture the whole dancer. Our faculty is committed to the technical, artistic, and personal development of each participant, and to creating a sense of belonging and connection. In addition to dance there will be some exciting and valuable options for dancers, teachers, and parents too!

Regional Finals ★

The highest scoring solos and groups AND the winner of each Challenge for Charity at Shine Burnaby, Vernon, Mission, and Nanaimo and SHINE.20 will earn a spot in the regional finals where they will compete for the following titles:

  • Elite Solo of the Year

  • Elite Group of the Year

  • Performance of the Year

Eligible routines will receive an invitation and instructions to register at their qualifying event.

GENERAL FAQ

  • We are working on offering payment plan options!

  • Our SHINE Wellness-First Policy offers refunds for withdrawals for medical reasons with supporting medical documentation. Registration for all events at SHINE.20 are non-refundable but ARE transferable (as long as it’s the same type of purchase) until June 15, 2025.

  • Yes! You can register for and attend the SHINE.20 convention, activities, and gala night with or without your studio. Competition registration is currently only open to studios.

CONVENTION FAQ

  • We warmly welcome dancers of all skill levels.The convention experience encourages dancers to be open-minded and willing to explore new approaches to their dance training and development.

    **DANCERS SHOULD REGISTER ACCORDING TO ABILITY RATHER THAN AGE. ONCE THE CLASS SCHEDULE IS CONFIRMED, DANCERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO CHOOSE THEIR CLASSES AND MAY SELECT CLASSES AT DIFFERENT LEVELS IN DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES.

    LEVEL ONE: Dancers can execute an assortment of foundational dance movements including a single or double pirouette and a variety of leaps and jumps.

    LEVEL TWO: Dancers can execute an extensive range of dance movements with control and artistic expression including triple pirouettes, fouette turns, and switch leaps.

    TEACHER: Dance Educators of all ages and disciplines are welcome at our teacher sessions.

    **We will add a third (junior) dancer level if there is sufficient registration.

  • We warmly welcome any dancer who is able to  participate independently in a large group class  setting and is open to new learning experiences. To prioritize safety level changes will be permitted onsite and dancers will be asked to level down if our staff feel they are at risk.

  • No, you can participate in any or all the events of your choice. SHINE.20 allows you to register for each event separately so you can opt-in or out as you like..

  • At Shine, we know that teachers can have an enormous influence on your children. That is why we select every member of our team based on integrity, professionalism, and their commitment to creating healthy dance experiences for youth. Faculty announcements are coming soon... click HERE to be notified when we do!

  • A one-day option is not available for the convention.

  • We are committed to providing a nurturing learning environment free of distractions for youth. Parents are not permitted to observe classes, but registered teachers will be. Our trained Shine assistants will be available in each class to provide dancer support and to open the door to offer parents a sneak peek for the last few minutes of each class.

  • Add-ons are available to everyone, not just participants!

  • We offer a range of classes, including popular styles like jazz and contemporary, as well as unique offerings that introduce new styles and approaches. There will also be sessions focused on dancer wellness.

  • If you would like to participate in DANCER classes you must register as a DANCER. TEACHERS will be permitted to participate in TEACHER classes and to observe DANCER classes.
