Where You Started Your Dance Journey: Three years old at Still Dancing School of Dance in Squamish, B.C.

Your Mentor: My childhood dance teachers, Debbie Vidas and Jane Runnals. Both have had an equal impact on who I am today and I still connect with them regularly to catch up or seek advice.

Your Dance Goals: Nurturing dancers to become well rounded humans for wherever life takes them and creating a safe dance home for dancers, parents and teachers.

Favourite Quote: Practice makes better. Lead by example.

Shawna Sloan
CR Dance Xtreme, Campbell River

Years Teaching: 25

What You Teach: Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, Stage, Hip Hop.

Where You Started Your Dance Journey: My dance journey began at Danette’s school of dance in Campbell River at the age of 4. The journey of my career began at 18 in Los Angeles.

Your Mentor:
My mentors have changed over the years. But there is one that holds reign and that is my mom. She was a warrior who loved hard, looked after everyone else with genuine care and compassion. Battled cancer for 10 years with so much joy for living that she far surpassed her given 2 years. Was incredibly optimistic and never complained about the hand she was dealt. She has inspired me on how I want the rest of my time here spent being, giving and receiving an abundance of love.

Your Dance Goals: I would like to keep educating dancers that there is so much more in the dance industry than what you see on social media. That there is a dance career out there even if you don’t have ‘perfect’ technique. Hard work, pick up skills, professionalism, STYLE…. To name a few will land you jobs. If you want a career in dance, keep remembering the ‘why’ and don’t lose sight of that.

Favourite Quote: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

Paige Anderson
Laszlo Tamasik Dance Academy, Powell River

Years Teaching: 25

What You Teach: Lyrical, Contemporary & Musical Theatre.

Where You Started Your Dance Journey: My dance journey started at the age of 3 with my first ballet class that took place in a small church in Powell River, B.C.

Your Mentor: My Mentors in the dance world are Buddy Mynatt & Robin Bleasdale and all the wonderful dance educators that I was able to take classes from growing up.

Your Dance Goals: A goal for myself as a dance educator is to prepare my dancers for a professional career in dance and to teach all dancers whether they decide to continue with dance or not, life skills that help them with everything. For example time management, work ethic, accountability, team work & problem solving.

Favourite Quote:"The Noblest Art Is That Of Making Others Happy" - P.T. Barnum.
